Affordable Robot Chassis

Designing solutions to create an affordable robot chassis

For many robotics teams, the budget is a limiting factor due to expensive kits and off-the-shelf parts. Using my knowledge and expertise in robotics, I partnered with Illinois First Robotics to design a low-cost mecanum wheel drive base that is compatible with popular build systems.

Over time, the material of the chassis changed from machined aluminum to HDPE, and now bent aluminum.

The wheels were initially driven by a chain and sprocket, but now have a more lightweight and cheaper solution, a 3D printed pulley and belt.
